BRE and the DHF (Door & Hardware Federation) have developed this comprehensive one-day training course that provides important details that must be addressed when installing, repairing and maintaining roller shutter fire doors.
The importance of good roller shutter fire door installation cannot be overemphasised. Poor installation can mean that an otherwise well-manufactured roller shutter door fails to provide the required performance in the event of a fire.
Repair and maintenance of a life-safety device such as a roller shutter fire door is imperative. Generally, after handover, this responsibility passes to the building owner. Ongoing maintenance should be considered a preventive measure to ensure that the roller shutter fire door operates correctly at all times. Where problems are identified it is extremely important that a system is in place to ensure that timely corrective action takes place so that failure of the roller shutter fire door is prevented. It is strongly recommended that a scheduled programme is implemented and that any maintenance identified is carried out promptly.

After completing the course learners will have:

  • Understand the legislation and standards applicable to roller shutter fire doors.
  • Be clear on conformity marking for roller shutter fire doors.
  • Realise the importance regarding design and specification considerations, including safe working practice and supporting construction.
  • Have clarification on fire testing and certification for roller shutter fire doors.
  • Appreciate the importance of critical components.
  • Understand the importance of regular repair and maintenance schedules.

Please note the completion of a training course alone cannot be evidence of competency, and BRE can only confirm if an individual has attended training and the content of that course. However, completion of courses may be cited alongside other factors such as experience and observations. We regularly review and update our training courses to ensure they reflect the latest changes and updates in building regulations and best practices. Regular re-training supports learning and contributes to ongoing professional development.
